Jane Nguyen

Co-President

American Mock World Health Organization, AMWHO

My name is Jane Nguyen and I am a senior majoring in Public Health. As the Co-President of the American Mock World Health Organization, I am excited to be partnering with PHAS to bring an exciting symposium to the Hopkins campus. I think that this collaboration will be a great way to really explore the intersections of health, equity, and innovation and I am looking forward to the invaluable discussions that will be taking place this March at the event!

A little bit about myself: on campus, I work at the Institute of NanoBioTechnology as a student researcher. My personal research project focuses on creating innovative diagnostic tools for patients with Cystic Fibrosis to ensure better clinical care.

Public Health in Asia Symposium, PHAS

My name is Jane Shin, I am the executive director of the Public Health in Asia Symposium. I am a senior majoring in Public Health and Sociology. My public health research interest is to explore the role of social capital and social support in mitigating mental distress and depressive symptoms in minority populations. Currently I'm conducting an independent research project on the relationship between mental health and educational performance with social support as a mediating factor, among a immigrant student population in South Korea.

ISADORA SALLES

My name is Isadora Salles, I am the co-director of the PHAS and the director of media and public relations for AMWHO. I am a senior majoring in Public Health and Romance Languages. I am excited for PHAS and AMWHO to be hosting the symposium this year and build on the strengths and interests of both organizations.

My interests and research experience in global health include epidemiological investigations of tuberculosis and HIV incidence and co-infection in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as well as of the characterization of typhoid prevalence in Southern Asia. The intersections between infectious disease and international development are fascinating and I look forward to learning more from our presenters at this year's symposium.

Advancing Equity, Driving Innovation

The world’s rapid economic development and westernization has led to an unprecedented reformation in global health status. Innovative approaches are taken in both public and private sectors through means of policy, technology, public-private collaboration, patient experience etc. in response to these changes. This symposium seeks to bring forth a holistic view of the current global public health status and the innovative approaches done to bring forth greater health equity.
